WHY BUY FROM THE SCHAUMBURG COMMUNITY GARDEN CLUB?
As a not-for-profit organization, the Garden Club donates a large portion
of its proceeds back to the community through educational programs and
community beautification projects. Every year, the club grows, harvests and
donates thousands of pounds of produce to the township food pantry.
Selling primarily native plants, the Garden Club is doing its part to
ensure native plants abound in Illinois. They are beautiful, as you can see
on this web site , and they are easy to care for. They’re very tolerant of
our soil (clay in most cases) and our climate (hot in summer and very cold
in winter) and once established, most will survive on our local rainfall.
You can rely on the Schaumburg Community Garden Club to supply a vast
selection of high quality plants at reasonable prices.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO SELECT?
We’ve provided significant information about each plant, including flower
color, bloom season, height, moisture and light requirements, and even
whether the plant will attract butterflies, hummingbirds or birds.
If you’re still not sure, try one of our complete garden collections and
save time and money over selecting individual plants on your own. Great care
has been taken in choosing the plants included in these gardens to ensure
ease of care and continuous bloom and interest throughout the growing
season.
DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WET AREA IN YOUR YARD?
Most of us have a soggy area caused from gutter or sump-pump runoff. You
can turn this "problem" area into a beautiful rain garden that will attract
birds and butterflies and minimize the volume and improve the quality of
water entering storm drains and nearby streams at the same time.
A rain garden is a man-made depression in the ground, 4-8 inches deep,
that collects water runoff and allows it to slowly filter back into the soil
rather than running off into sewers and streams. The depression is planted
with native plants that tolerate wet soil. The deep roots of many native
plants increase the ability of soil to hold water and hold the soil
together. Rain gardens don’t require much space and can be designed in
various shapes.
We are offering two rain garden collections, one for full sun and one for
full sun to partial shade. Complete instructions for creating a rain garden
will be included with our garden collections.
